School History

The founders of the International School of Hout Bay identified a need on behalf of parents living in Hout Bay for a world-class, private education that would provide their children with a loving, caring and affirmative environment. The School would welcome children of all faiths, nationalities, cultures and backgrounds on the understanding that the School would be founded on a Biblical Worldview. The School opened in 1999 and gained independence as the International School of Hout Bay in October 2002. In 2005 IES, a subdivision of SEK took over the ownership and management of the school and proceeded to purchase land at the heart of the community of Hout Bay on which to establish a purpose built school. Negotiations are in progress to allow building to start. 

Although only a 20 minute scenic drive from Cape Town itself, Hout Bay has a self-contained rural village atmosphere complete with its own fishing harbour, yacht club, unspoilt beach, mountain trails, horse riding schools, sports clubs, great library, first class shops and restaurants, medical centre; art, pottery and music teachers and top class dance and drama studios. Hout Bay is the perfect setting for a healthy, balanced lifestyle. 

With all the facilities of an up-and-coming new town, the Hout Bay community is still close to its roots. The warmth and closeness of the old farming and fishing communities still prevails, making Hout Bay a haven for artists and nature lovers.

Hout Bay is a regular playfield to a variety of dolphins, seals and whales that enjoy our still waters, to the delight of both locals and tourists.
