International School of Hout Bay 2010 International Baccalaureate results
In 2008 the International School of Hout Bay changed curriculae from the Cambridge A-Level to the International Baccalaureate (not to be confused with the South African Independent Examinations Board examinations.)
In 2010 the first class, cohort, of Hout Bay pupils wrote the matriculation examination of the International Baccalaureate. The statistics published by the International Baccalaureate Organisation show that the International School of Hout Bay has higher average than the world wide average. This is an outstanding achievement considering that our students competed against the best students from the UK, Far and Middle East and the Americas.
Instead of the familiar A to G scale, the IB awards its results on a 1 to 7 scale, with a 4 a pass mark and a 7 the top result. Students take 6 subjects and must score 24 points to be awarded the Diploma. A score of approxomately 28 points (depending on subject combination and Faculty requirements) will secure the required points for admission to the University of Cape Town’s Arts faculty, 32 points will secure the required points for admission to the University of Cape Town’s Commerce faculty and 38 to 40 points is the Oxford or Cambridge requirement.
